The Black Belt

There are many styles of Martial Arts, and each seems to have its own definition of the Black Belt.

In our Academy it is a symbol of accomplishment and years of dedicated training. It takes anywhere from 4 to 6 years to attain Black Belt, in either Junior or Adult ranking. All of our Black Belts are certified through the International Meibukan Gojyu Ryu Karate Do Association. This is our parent organization based in Okinawa,Japan. There are many IMGKA Dojos located in Canada and the rest of the world.

The Western Academy of Martial Arts is not a small town hobby club, where a student may achieve a black belt but it is recognized by that club only. When a Black Belt is presented to a student at Western Academy it is recognized all over the world as being such. It is something to be proud of. Many of our students use this on their resumes when entering University and College. When applying for employment this is a great asset to have. What could be more useful to a prospective employer than having an employee who has already been trained in self discipline, integrity, responsibility, teamwork, use of initiative and so on?

After Black Belt

A student's training does not end at Black Belt. This is only the beginning. Having mastered the basics the student is now ready for more in depth training.

As long as a student is a member of our Academy, there will be old skills to polish and new ones to discover. Black Belts may train in as many classes as they choose at no extra charge. We do not punish the most dedicated students by charging them more. At The Western Academy of Martial Arts there are NO special "clubs" such as Black Belt Club, Leadership Team, Super Winning Attitude Team etc.
